Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Workgroup

Introduction

The VDIW Team is happy to have you here! Have a look around. Check out the guidelines page to see how to officially join the conversation!

The VDI Workgroup team will be responsible for evaluating the different technologies used for moving the traditional desktop into the cloud or DataCenter.

This can include full solutions (XenDesktop and View), Application virtualization (ThinApp and XenApp), WebOSes (JoliCloud, Chromium) or Web-Hosted solutions (Stoneware) or any combination thereof.

VDIW asks that you sign any major changes to a page (use four tilde' (~)) either at the end of the section or at the end of the paragraph changed. Minor edits, such as formatting, typos, text arrangement, etc... does not need to be signed. For discussions please use the Discussion pages on each page.

We now have a mailing list!

Training and Meetings

WebEx VDI Tech Morning Pending....

  • Hosted by Artemis Technology.
  • When: TBA
  • Where: WebEx
  • Who should attend: Any and all VDIW members.
  • Agenda:

9:00 – 10:00 – Eli Khnaser – Artemis Technology (Bio included) Will review VDI, the various manufactures that offer VDI solutions and the differences between them. We will allow 15 to 30 minutes of open discussion between all the participants.

10:00 – 11:00 – Thin Clients in a VDI environment – WYSE Technologies has worked with VM and Citrix to develop Zero and Thin Clients to meet the needs of VDI environments. As an example the WYSE Xenith was developed to deliver XenDesktop to end points. Sycamore School District is using these to replace Fat Clients at a greatly reduced cost. They have a real interesting offering with Cisco that may be very beneficial to the illini cloud as well.

11:00 – 12:00 - RES Software dynamic desktop solutions simplify desktops into centrally managed, secure, personalized, context-aware and less complex desktops for your users. You want total control of your desktops including profile management, persistent personalization, user environment management, IT task automation, printer management, virtual desktop management, desktop security, user workspace management, getting rid of roaming profiles issues, and reducing desktop costs – you need RES Software. Citrix and View don’t deliver 100% of all you need to do VDI. RES will bring “the rest of the story” into your VDI environment.
